To be honest I even enjoyed this type of storytelling. I waited pretty long till I watched it, because I heard it was a little bit confusing and contrived thanks to the mixed timelines, but I have to tell, it wasn't all that bad. Surprisingly good show! - has a uinque feeling to it. While it'll be confusing, and 2/3 of the time it'll just be ehh, the 1/3 that Geralt is on screen is so great that I think it saves the whole show and makes it overall great. On top of that, there's a PC tint to the whole show that occasionally adds a cringe factor.Īll in all, I strongly recommend it. If you can't quickly identify locations, you can't remember them, and so you can't remember what happened in them, and so it's hard to follow a convoluted storyline. This defect is compounded by the writers trying to be too clever, and quickly reveal a lot of crucial information that the viewer is somehow supposed to just absorb, making it almost impossible for people who aren't already fans of The Witcher to follow on their first watch (reminded me of the Warcraft movie). You can't even distinguish elves from humans without seeing the ears (compare GOT where you can usually guess the location based on the look and on-screen characters). From cities in the north to the south, from the east to the west, everywhere you get the same amalgam of people. The Bad: the aesthetic and background casting! There is no sense of culture or location in this show. Sometimes the casting choices are OK, but they lack the right look (Triss Merigold is of note here). Outside of Henry, no one really shines, and some of the casting is downright terrible (King Foltest is of note). There's a hit-and-miss with many of the other characters. The OK: Casting and individual costuming is ok in this show. Every second he's on the screen makes for amazing content. It is obvious that he is a fan, and knows this universe. The dialogue, costuming, and mannerisms, are all great, and the choreography for the fighting is the best I've seen in cinema. The Good: Henry Cavill's portrayal of Geralt (the witcher) is S-tier.
